Our story
Southwest Hearing began in 2019 as a pop-up clinic focused on supporting musicians in Bristol, run by husband-and-wife team Jonathan & Vicki. Alongside Jonathan’s work at the Spire Hospital and Clifton Audiology, we offered regular clinics in partnership with the Musicians’ Hearing Health Scheme. As word spread and the service grew, we found ourselves looking for more of a permanent space. At the same time, life was evolving - not least with the arrival of our little boy. We found ourselves craving more space, both for our family and for the next chapter of Southwest Hearing.
So, we took the leap! We left the city and relocated to beautiful Devon. Since summer 2023, we’ve proudly established an independent clinic for audiological care in the heart of Totnes, rooted in values of kindness and clinical integrity. As a family-run service, we work side by side, and our deep understanding of each other brings clarity to every decision - something we believe is reflected in the calm, honest care we provide to every patient.
Outside of clinic hours, we’re often exploring the South Hams with our son; swimming at Blackpool Sands, walking the Dartington Estate, kayaking on the Dart, or enjoying brunch in one of Totnes’ charming cafés. We’re so happy to be here, and we look forward to becoming a lasting part of the community.
Jonathan Doyle MSc BSc (Hons) RHAD
Audiologist & Clinical Director
After spending a decade refining my skills in some of the UK’s leading independent audiology clinics, from Harley Street Hearing in London to Clifton Audiology in Bristol, opening our own clinic here in Totnes has been both a proud achievement and a long-held dream. Southwest Hearing is built on everything I’ve learned through years of hands-on experience. We feel it’s our patient-first approach that sets our service apart; a belief that every ear deserves tailored care, and this philosophy has led to many kind testimonials from people we've helped (see our 5-star Google reviews!).
My journey began with a Neuroscience degree at the University of Manchester, where I became fascinated by the link between sensory input and cognitive experience. That led to a Master’s in Audiology at University College London, deepening my passion for the science and art of hearing. Whether it’s tuning into the subtleties of sound or restoring the joy of connection and communication, I love what I do, and I’m always happy to share my knowledge.
Vicki Doyle
Practice Director
After 15 incredible years working in luxury travel, both here in the UK and abroad, I’ve swapped airports for audiology and now look after the behind-the-scenes operations at Southwest Hearing. My time in travel gave me so much more than just a list of places visited - it gave me a deep appreciation for exceptional service and a genuine love for connecting with people from all walks of life.
Alongside my work here, I also spend time swim teaching - something I chose simply because it brings me joy and balance.
As our business continues to grow, I’m passionate about making sure every person who visits us feels genuinely cared for. Whether you're visiting us for the first time or returning, your experience matters.
